Street View Detroit

Street View Detroit is an ongoing research project into how Google’s tool has changed our optical relation to place. This project has culminated in a 240+ page book of Street View images taken from Detroit after scanning every street and building that Street View cameras have “photographed” since Google started the project in 2011.

Each spread in the book represents a different geographic portion of the city and through the selected images, attempts to distill, or represent, the unique formal/visual characteristic of each area; with the whole attempting a holistic image. Street view allows a city's compendium image to be fully taken in at once, whereas before it may have taken a person a lifetime of exploring their city.
